Regional Director of Alternative Delivery – T&I

WSP is seeking a Regional Director of Alternative Delivery – T&I to lead the pursuit and execution of heavy highway and transportation projects using fixed price design/build (DB), public‑private partnerships (P3), or progressive design‑build (PDB) procurement methods.

This position can be based at any WSP office in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with WSP’s National Director of Alternative Delivery on business and program/project strategy, partnerships, and staff recruitment and retention.
  • Oversee pre‑ and post‑award execution of complex transportation projects procured with alternative delivery methods.
  • Supervise, mentor, and assign tasks to multidisciplinary engineering and technical staff.
  • Engage collaboratively with contractors, concessionaires, sub‑consultants, owners, and additional project stakeholders.
  • Conduct reviews and grant approval of design plans, specifications, and calculations, ensuring adherence to codes and standards.
  • Establish and maintain rigorous project‑wide quality control protocols and coordinate interdisciplinary design evaluations.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for contractors regarding design topics and manage change.
  • Lead project scope, schedule, and fee definition from pursuit through post‑award delivery, track progress, manage budgets and risks, and update senior management.
  • Manage design documentation for permit submissions, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Promote Alternative Technical Concepts (ATCs), innovative design solutions, and new technologies to enhance project outcomes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; working technical proficiency in complex structures preferred.
  • Minimum 12+ years of post‑education experience in the industry.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in roadway design and project management, with at least 3 years in a design‑build environment.
  • Strong understanding of Digital Delivery (Digital Twins, integrated design software such as Bentley Open Roads, Infrastructure Cloud, etc.) and project management tools (Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of DOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, and other relevant regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in analytical, organizational, business, critical thinking, problem‑solving, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels.
  • Excellent self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance to mid‑level to senior‑level team members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources without formal hierarchical relationships.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change and varying schedules and hours to meet project‑specific needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Compensation

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $157,500 – $267,700.
