Position: C27-118 Speech Pathologist (Yearend)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Speech Pathologist provides speech and language therapy to students with special language needs and is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will maximize the learning experience of students with special needs through providing speech language therapy individualized to the students' needs, as well as, documenting student progress/activities, outcomes;

addressing students’ specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare thorough and complete lesson plans and instruct students in accordance with established curriculum and student need.
  • Assess student needs and performance. Develop, implement and evaluate speech therapy sessions, to include scheduled activities and materials. Modify instruction to meet the needs of each child.
  • Implement a developmentally appropriate integrated curriculum design which emphasizes building meaningful content connections for the students.
  • Establish a positive learning environment, prepare, deliver and respond with differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students.
  • Uses and implements classroom management techniques to maintain organization, orderliness, student safety, and a productive learning environment.
  • Plans instruction and implement instructional techniques to encourage and motivate students.
  • Uses data to inform program effectiveness and student success. Document progress on student goals and share with families a minimum of quarterly.
  • Use technology to enhance learning.
  • Promote positive relations with parents through ongoing communication and conferences.
  • Ensure parents and students are informed of methods of evaluation used in the classroom.
  • Inform parents of student progress and school activities. Advise parents of instructional methods that may assist student.
  • Participates as a member of an instructional team to develop and promote learning activities for students that is built on an integrated continuum curriculum, consistent with district and school education objectives.
  • Collaborate with specialists and general and special education teachers as needed to assist students.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings including professional learning communities to discuss, share, evaluation results, problems, success stories and to plan ways to solve student issues or increase student achievement.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Screen and evaluate students with language difficulties or delayed development.
  • Provide speech and language services in accordance with the student’s IEP.
  • Participate as part of the multi-disciplinary team in reviewing qualifications of students with speech and language needs or delayed development.
  • Prepare all local, state, and federal reports associated with student case load.
  • Act as a resource on speech and language issues for the teacher, parents, and administration.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit, school and district.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of using email, managing files, recording and reporting grades electronically, and using Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge and command of grades/subject specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation and feedback techniques
  • Knowledge of Special Education Laws
  • Knowledge of the needs of Secondary or Elementary School Aged Students
  • Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the education experience of students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
