Funding Information: This is a grant funded assignment with a projected end date of 06‑30‑2026 with renewal based on available funds and the needs of MCCCD.

Job Summary

Researches, writes, edits and produces long‑ and short‑form reporting on local, state and national environmental issues for broadcast and digital platforms. Consistently produces compelling, impactful content in a timely manner. Serves as an in‑depth, beat‑focused reporter and subject‑matter expert who can analyze news developments, data and trends and speak and write about them with authority.

Essential Functions
  • 40% – Researches, gathers, writes, edits and delivers long‑form reporting
  • 20% – Investigates breaking news developments
  • 20% – Develops contact lists and sources and analyzes background information related to story development
  • 10% – Publishes stories across multiple media platforms using audio equipment and multimedia gear
  • 10% – Assists in fundraising efforts and events; performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in journalism, radio/television, broadcasting or a directly related field and two (2) years of professional journalism/broadcasting experience such as researching, editing, interviewing and reporting news stories.

• OR an equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full‑time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver’s License and/or FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License may be required for some assignments.

Desired Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years in specialty beat reporting, preferably on water and climate issues
  • Breaking news experience
  • Investigative reporting experience
  • Two (2) or more years writing long‑form content for multiple platforms
  • One (1) or more years of experience providing expert commentary on beat topics and/or hosting or moderating topical discussions in a public forum
  • Deep portfolio (10+) of long‑form feature reporting with a demonstrated ability to consistently produce such content in a timely manner
  • Excellent editing skills as demonstrated through a portfolio containing recent examples of news reporting in any media format submitted by the close of business of the Final date to receive applications attached with your application
