Job Summary
Pet Smart’s Store Leader oversees safety, pet parent experience, operations, finances, and HR functions. This role provides leadership, drives company culture and strategies, achieves results, and upholds Pet Smart’s vision and values.
Essential Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
People Leadership:
- Manage employment decisions: recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and termination.
- Foster an open-door culture, engage with associates, and respond to feedback.
- Create and manage store schedules.
- Support associate development through reviews, recognition, training, and mentorship.
- Delegate effectively, empower team members, and promote ownership.
- Communicate store priorities and respond to environmental changes.
- Handle associate grievances and recognize engagement efforts.
- Ensure timely delivery of reviews.
- Lead the associate and pet parent experience, ensuring safety and health of pets.
- Manage pet parent interactions and resolve concerns.
- Create an environment focused on positive experiences.
- Seek process and service improvements.
- Partner with community groups for events.
- Maintain store standards and compliance.
- Conduct safety and policy audits.
- Respond to health and safety incidents promptly.
- Oversee store opening/closing procedures.
- Implement corporate strategies and achieve profitability goals.
- Analyze reports, identify issues, and develop improvement plans.
- Drive business growth and meet sales and shrink targets.
- Manage expenses and store metrics.
- Utilize resources for maintenance and procurement.
- Create schedules and manage payroll within budget.
- Complete required reporting and store errands.
- 4-6 years retail leadership or customer service experience.
- Full-time availability, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and stay organized.
- Oversee Experience Leader, Process Leader, up to 6 lead associates, and 70 non-leader associates.
- Stand, walk, climb ladders, handle objects, and perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Work in environments with pet hair, mechanical parts, and variable noise levels.
- Handle live animals as part of the job.
