Description
Head Start Birth-5 has an opening for a full‑time Disabilities and Behavioral Health Specialist working 35 hours per week. This position is responsible for providing training, observing children, developing strategies, and assisting with disabilities and challenging behaviors. It involves developing, implementing and maintaining positive working relationships with area Local Education Agencies and Part C agencies to ensure high quality services for children with IEP/IFSP and/or behavioral health needs.
The specialist will monitor IEP/IFSP information, developmental and social‑emotional screening results, and other data affecting disability and mental health services. Support and model strategies with participants, families, and staff with IEP/IFSP, Positive Support Plans, or Behavioral Management Plans. Presence at each Head Start facility is required frequently, on an as‑needed basis, and/or as directed. This position will complete duties and responsibilities as they relate to the Head Start Performance Standards, Indiana Day Care Licensing Regulations, CACFP Guidelines, and Head Start Birth-5 Forms and Procedures Manual.
A graduate of an accredited college or university with at least an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a correlated discipline or currently enrolled in an accredited program leading to such a degree is required. Three or more years’ experience in early childhood education, special education, and/or mental health may be considered. A bachelor’s degree, knowledge of child development and preschool experience preferred.
Must meet Head Start and Indiana Childcare Licensing Regulations, including Head Start Standards of Conduct, federal and state criminal history requirements, sex offender registry checks, drug screen, physical examination and annual TB test.
