Overview

Telford & Wrekin Council is offering a 5‑year Civil Engineering Apprenticeship within the Highways, Engineering and Project Delivery teams, leading to a BEng (Hons) in Civil and Transportation Engineering and Incorporated Engineering status with the Institute of Civil Engineers.

Salary starts at £25,583 progressing to £36,363* (NJC Scale 3 progressing to SO1).

Apprenticeship Programme

The programme provides academic training and practical experience across various disciplines, culminating in progression from Apprentice to Engineering Technician and then to Assistant Engineer.

Progression Path

First two years:
Apprentice → Engineering Technician. Upon completion of the BEng, progression to Assistant Engineer.

Qualifications Required
  • 88 UCAS points comprising 3 A levels that include maths and one other science‑based subject or an engineering BTEC extended diploma
  • HND or HNC in a Civil Engineering discipline or equivalent
  • GCSE Maths and English grade C or above
Job Context and Investment

Telford & Wrekin Council manages 626 miles of road, 743 miles of footpaths, 132 cycle ways, 20,000 street lights, 120 roundabouts, 400 parks and open spaces, and 15 million trees. Between 2026 and 2030, the Council will invest over £90m in neighbourhood improvements under the ‘Pride in Our Community’ programme.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a personal statement and will work under the instruction of the team leader. The apprenticeship must provide substantive new skills beyond prior qualifications.
