Overview
Western Eco Systems Technology, Inc. (WEST) is looking for a temporary, full-time Biological Field Technician.

Stipend provided - Equipment: GPS units and other field equipment provided by WEST; field technicians must be equipped with professional-grade binoculars, rugged hiking boots, and appropriate clothing
The primary duty involves conducting fieldwork with long days in an air-conditioned tower scanning and monitoring GPS locations on California condors and coordinating with on-ground staff to track condor activity. Some days start at or near sunrise. The position includes field work in remote locations. Work is full-time (30-36 hours) with two days of work per week (Saturday/Sunday), but may require longer hours.
Candidates must be comfortable with hazards typical of the environment (sharp vegetation, driving a four-wheel drive vehicle, dust, extreme heat and cold) and must pay attention to detail and communicate effectively with the team.

Requirements- Ability to identify birds, record data accurately, follow study and safety protocols, stay on schedule, and troubleshoot field issues
- Previous experience conducting active curtailment for large birds at an operational wind facility, specific to golden eagle and/or California condor
- Ability to interact positively and professionally with project managers, field leads, landowners, and other technicians
- Ability to arrive on time, maintain focus for long periods, follow instructions from the team leader, maintain a positive attitude, and accept guidance and constructive criticism
- Consistent communication with the team is essential
- Environmental conditions include working in rain, wind, mud, and hot temperatures
- Potential encounter with snakes, insects, and other wildlife
Applicants must be able to stay attentive for up to 16 hours a day.
Pre-EmploymentAfter an offer is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver’s license is required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
