Kern Community College District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Kern Community College District is soliciting applications for part‑time, hourly adjunct instructors. The starting salary range is $67.00/hour; hourly rate may vary based on type of assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. For more information, refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or your college HR office.
Representative DutiesThe successful applicant will be expected to:
- Provide instruction in a full range of English and Reading courses.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the English department.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Develop and revise curriculum.
- Use computer and multimedia technology.
- Participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
This assignment may include using multiple teaching methodologies and teaching at other campus sites; day, evening, or weekend classes; large classes; distance learning classes; and classes for incarcerated students.

- Master’s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition.
- OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism.
- OR Equivalent experience (education, experience, and accomplishments). Candidates must request and submit an Application for Equivalence form with supporting documents.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized service.
