Durham School Services – Crossing Guard

Join Durham School Services as a Crossing Guard and help keep children safe as they travel to and from school.

• Assist children and the general public in crossing busy streets and intersections.
• Ensure children cross the street only when it is safe, stopping traffic and using traffic signals as required.
• Understand local traffic laws, signs, and speed limits and apply them to guide vehicles and pedestrians.
• Teach children proper street‑crossing safety rules and basic safety techniques.
• Report any unsafe behavior of students or drivers to school officials and reduce the risk of injuries.
• Identify speeding or careless drivers and document their license plate number for authorities.
• Observe and anticipate dangers to develop effective solutions before an accident occurs.
• Greet the general public courteously, answer questions, and provide directions as needed.
• Remain calm in emergency situations and stay visible to the public during working hours.
• Assist drivers when necessary and perform other job duties as assigned.
• Exhibit the highest ethical best practices and personal integrity; share concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior with supervisors or managers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Familiarity with all traffic hazards, signs, rules, and regulations.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Great attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in compliance with company policies and procedures.

Pay range: $15.50 – $20.00 per hour.
