Position: Construction Transportation Technician II - Crew 2753

The Position

Transportation Technician II with Region Two's Construction Crew 2753. The Utah Department of Transportation seeks a hard‑working, hands‑on individual to fill this role. The position is critical to the construction and maintenance of state roads and to keeping Utah moving safely and efficiently.

Principle Duties
  • Assist with the inspection and documentation of UDOT construction projects.
  • Perform materials testing to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Conduct construction inspection and documentation of contractor work.
  • Provide the required documentation to ensure features are constructed and installed according to project plans and specifications.
  • Work with contractors to complete construction, maintenance, and permit projects.
  • When cross‑training in a maintenance role, assist in snow removal operations as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
  • Residence within a 30‑minute response time of the Region Boundary.
  • 24‑hour availability and willingness to provide it.
  • Self‑provide a smartphone with data and eligibility for a monthly taxable allowance to offset cell plan costs.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Reliable and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Willingness to complete continued education in the UDOT Transportation Technician Education Program (TEP).
  • Obtain certifications required by the Region within the first year and keep them current.
Preferences
  • Class A CDL.
  • Transportation Education Program (TEP) training.
  • Construction experience on highway or local roadway projects.
  • UDOT maintenance/construction experience.
  • Professional work experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Professional work experience with and/or knowledge of roadway maintenance and snow removal.
Supplemental Information
  • Registration with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is required for all CDL holders. Selected candidates must register and authorize UDOT to conduct full pre‑employment queries and limited queries on their CDL for the duration of their employment.
  • This position is subject to pre‑employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing of employees after hire.
  • Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
  • Position requires frequent exposure to hazards and discomforts of traffic and environmental conditions due to the nature of the work assignment.
  • Position requires physical exertion and may require the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and for long periods of time.
