Position

The Utah Department of Transportation is looking for a hard‑working, hands‑on individual to fill a Transportation Technician II position in Region Two's Murray Maintenance Station located at 5823 S Commerce, Murray, UT 84107. This is a very important position that is part of a team that oversees or is involved with the construction and maintenance of state roads and keeps Utah moving as safely and efficiently as possible.

Principle

Duties
  • Removing snow from state roadways using snowplows, front‑end loaders, salt spreaders, graders, blowers, and other related equipment.
  • Performing general maintenance to roadway and drainage features.
  • Performing general maintenance on equipment.
  • Performing materials testing and providing the associated required documentation to ensure features are constructed/installed according to project plans and specifications.
  • Performing construction inspection and documentation on the work performed by contractors.
  • Working with contractors to complete construction, maintenance, and permit projects.
  • Performing vegetation management, including herbicide application.
  • Completing other duties as assigned and needed by department leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Has a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or is able to obtain one within 6 months of hire through Department‑provided training and participate in the Region's snow plan. See UDOT Policy 06A-15 Driver License Requirements.
  • Is able and willing to report to the Region Two Murray Maintenance Station located at 5823 S Commerce, Murray, UT 84107, within a 30‑minute response time.
  • Is able and willing to provide 24‑hour availability.
  • Will self‑provide a smartphone with data and will be eligible to receive a monthly taxable allowance to offset the cost of cell plans. See UDOT Policy 02-26 Cell Phones.
  • Is able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Is reliable and can work well in a team environment.
  • Is able and willing to complete continued education in the UDOT Transportation Technician Education Program (TEP).
  • Obtain certifications required by the Region within the first year and keep those certifications current.
Preferences
  • A Class "A" Commercial Driver's License.
  • Transportation Education Program (TEP) Transportation Technician II Training.
  • UDOT maintenance/construction experience.
  • Professional work experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Professional work experience with and/or knowledge of roadway maintenance/construction and snow removal.
Supplemental Information
  • Registration with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse (Clearinghouse) is a requirement for all commercial driver license and learner permit holders. Selected candidates will be required to register and authorize UDOT to conduct full pre‑employment queries and limited queries on their CDL for the duration of their employment in order to be considered for this role.
