Overview

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join our team in Region One. As an Electronic Technical Specialist II, you will play a vital role in "Keeping Utah Moving" by installing, repairing, and maintaining the electronic equipment that keeps our roads safe.

Responsibilities
  • System Maintenance:
    Install and repair Variable Message Signs (VMS), Electronic signs, CCTV cameras and radar detection systems.
  • Specialized Hardware:
    Work on solar-powered systems, battery backups, two-way radios, and modem communication.
  • Troubleshooting:
    Respond to reports of broken equipment and fix issues on-site.
  • Inspections:
    Ensure all traffic and intelligent systems meet safety regulations and standards.
  • Operations:
    Drive and operate a bucket truck and use specialized calibration tools.
  • Availability:
    Participate in an on-call rotation for night and weekend emergency repairs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Location:

    You must live within Davis, Weber, Morgan, Cache or Box Elder County.
  • Experience:

    At least two years of professional electrical/electronics work experience or electronics education (or a combination of both).
  • Certification/License:
    Must hold International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I and II certifications OR a Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Knowledge:
    Familiarity with electrical systems, traffic signal technology, and computer systems.
Underfill Option

If you have less than two years of experience or do not yet have an IMSA Level II certification or Journeyman Electrician License, you may be considered for the Electronic Technical Specialist I level.

Requirement:
You must have (or be able to get) IMSA Level I within one year and Level II within two years. UDOT provides this training.

Pay Range: $20.36 – $34.06 (Starting wage: $26.06).

Preferred Qualifications
  • A Journeyman Electrician license.
  • An Associate’s degree (or higher) in electronics or electrical technology.
  • Four or more years of combined education and professional experience.
Supplemental Information
  • Testing:
    This position requires a pre-employment drug screen and participation in a random drug and alcohol testing program.

    Please note:

    job offers to those who are not currently on the random drug list may be conditional pending drug test results.
  • Availability:
    This position is required to be on-call and work after hours on a regular basis.
  • Working Conditions &

    Physical Requirements
    • Safety:
      You will work at heights of 50+ feet, around live traffic and with voltages up to 600V.
    • Physicality:
      You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in cramped or outdoor environments.
  • Note on Reassignment:
    The employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Division Leader.
