Job Description:
The State of Utah Wildland Fire Operations Center is seeking highly skilled and motivated applicants for a career-level Crew Supervisor position with the Dromedary Peak Type 2 Initial Attack Handcrew. This position manages multiple aspects of a complex fire crew by developing, integrating, and supervising personnel to form one or more independent resources. The Crew Supervisor ensures the effective delivery of firefighting and fuels reduction services through oversight, guidance, and fiscal accountability.
This is a key management position requiring extensive experience in wildland fire suppression, fuels reduction operations, and personnel management. The incumbent serves as an agency representative, interfacing with local, regional, and national dispatch centers, as well as agency and interagency partners, and the public. In summary, this position is responsible for the development, oversight, and management of all facets of Dromedary Peak’s operations.

- Experience as a firefighter and leader in wildland firefighting and fuels reduction work.
- Advanced knowledge of fire suppression strategies and tactics, fire line leadership and chainsaw use.
- Qualified Crew Boss (CRWB).
- Qualified Faller 2 (FAL2).
- Qualified Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5).
- Team player able to contribute to the Wildland Fire Operations Center’s sustainability.

Responsibilities- Supervises subordinate personnel including: determining workload and delegating assignments, training, and evaluating performance, initiating corrective or disciplinary actions. Mentor, motivate and provide direction for subordinates, develop and deliver curriculum for training.
- Develop strategies and plans, organize workplace functions; coordinate times, vacation schedules, and other staffing coverage; uphold established workplace procedures; authorize and audit unit billing/ expenditures; maintain records; arrange for equipment maintenance and be responsible for its upkeep and accountability.
- Advanced knowledge of fire suppression strategies and tactics, fire line leadership and chainsaw use.
- Resolves potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, adjoining resources and/ or the public.
- Provide leaders intent and direction for all wildland firefighting and project applications. Ensure all operations meet agency guidelines for safe operations.
- Complete annual core training and certification requirements to maintain qualifications, competency, and physical fitness in accordance with standards established by the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands.

- Physical Requirements
- Wildland fire qualifications and agency certification standards.
- Requires field work in inclement weather and rough terrain; work requires physical exertion with the ability to stand for long periods of time, walk over rough surfaces, bend, lift heavy items (up to and over 50 lbs)
- Vehicle operation in rough terrain; work around heavy equipment operations and chainsaw use.
- Fire and land management projects may require camping out and preparing own food.
- Must adhere to agency On Call policies and standards.
- Must travel/participate with crew on all assignments (project, fire, all hazard) unless previously discussed and approved.
- Must meet designated response time standards for mobilization.
- Must be able to pass a drug test screening.
