Position: Custodian, Day Shift-Taylorsville Campus (Part-Time)

Overview

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment. New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date.

Job Summary:

The PT Custodian, Day Shift - Taylorsville Campus (Mon-Thurs 8am-2:30pm; Friday 8am-1:30pm) under immediate supervision of the Custodial Coordinator is an important position to the college because all duties performed are visible and contribute greatly to the environment and overall appeal at each campus and in each building. This position knows fundamental concepts of custodial services to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for all campuses and sites operated by Salt Lake Community College.

This position performs standard tasks using established methods, principals, concepts, and procedures. This position will ensure that all SLCC, Facilities and Custodial required training is completed and maintained to provide the consistent, reliable, and timely facilities support to the College by the custodial services department. This position has a regular schedule but requires flexibility and must be available to work on call for snow removal and other building clean up emergencies, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Day Shift: Mon-Thurs 8am-2:30pm;
Friday 8am-1:30pm; 29 Hours a week. FY25 starting salary $15 per hour.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Clean classrooms and offices.
  • Clean restrooms and locker rooms.
  • Fill soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other dispensers.
  • Clean indoor and outdoor public areas including tables, chairs, ramps, patios, entryways, atriums, stairways, elevators, hallways, balconies, and emptying trash.
  • Sweep and mop hard surface floors.
  • Vacuum carpets.
  • Empty and clean trash cans and ash urns.
  • Clean glass, windows, and sills.
  • Clean whiteboards and trays.
  • Wipe down furniture (i.e., tables, desks, chairs, etc.).
  • Clean and polish handrails, metal trim and drinking fountains.
  • Clean walls, ceilings, corners, edges, baseboards, chair rails, doors, and frames.
  • Polish doorknobs, frames, and kick plates.
  • Dust and clean vents and light covers.
  • Ensure that all lights are off, and doors secured after completing cleaning duties.
  • Remove graffiti as needed.
  • Keep custodial closet clean and organized.
  • Keep custodial equipment clean and maintained.
  • Respond to emergency calls and clean up after floods and spills utilizing proper personal protective equipment.
  • Report problems and damage.
  • Perform standard tasks using established methods, principals, concepts, and procedures.
  • Complete and maintain all SLCC, Facilities and Custodial required training.
  • Assist in setting up furniture and equipment for special events as scheduled by the College.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Computer and data entry skills.
    • Ability to navigate the Internet.
    • Ability to use a timecard system.
    • Ability to use MS Office, particularly Outlook.
    • Ability to complete all college required training courses.
    • Ability to safely move 75 lbs.
    • Ability to position oneself to perform custodial duties.
    • Ability to safely use a ladder on a regular basis.
    • Ability to perform equipment maintenance tasks.
    • Receive and follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to read and understand SDS labeling requirements.
    • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to the safety requirements of OSHA and ISSA.
    • Snow removal skills and ability to use snow shovels and ice melt solutions.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
    • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Must be able to read, write and do basic arithmetic.
    • No experience necessary.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • GED or equivalent.
