Job Title: PT Custodian, Swing Shift - Taylorsville Student Center
Schedule: Mon-Thurs 6:00 pm–12:30 am;
Friday 6:00 pm–11:30 pm. On-call availability for snow removal and other building clean-up emergencies, 24/7, 365 days a year. Salary starting at $15 per hour (FY25).
This position, under the immediate supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, is essential to the college environment and overall campus appeal. It requires understanding fundamental custodial concepts to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for all Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) campuses and sites. Tasks follow established methods, principals, concepts, and procedures. The role supports consistent, reliable, and timely facilities services as part of the Custodial Services Department.
Note: This position requires completion and ongoing maintenance of all SLCC, Facilities, and Custodial training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Clean classrooms and offices.
- Clean restrooms and locker rooms.
- Fill soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other dispensers.
- Clean indoor and outdoor public areas including tables, chairs, ramps, patios, entryways, atriums, stairways, elevators, hallways, balconies, and emptying trash.
- Sweep and mop hard surface floors.
- Vacuum carpets.
- Empty and clean trash cans and ash urns.
- Clean glass, windows, and sills.
- Clean whiteboards and trays.
- Wipe down furniture (e.g., tables, desks, chairs).
- Clean and polish handrails, metal trim and drinking fountains.
- Clean walls, ceilings, corners, edges, baseboards, chair rails, doors, and frames.
- Polish doorknobs, frames, and kick plates.
- Dust and clean vents and light covers.
- Ensure all lights are off and doors are secured after cleaning duties.
- Remove graffiti as needed.
- Keep custodial closet clean and organized.
- Keep custodial equipment clean and maintained.
- Respond to emergency calls and clean up after floods and spills using proper personal protective equipment.
- Report problems and damage.
- Perform standard tasks using established methods, principals, concepts, and procedures.
- Complete and maintain all SLCC, Facilities and Custodial required training.
- Assist in setting up furniture and equipment for special events as scheduled by the College.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Computer and data entry skills; ability to navigate the Internet.
- Timecard system proficiency; MS Office, particularly Outlook.
- Ability to complete all college required training courses.
- Ability to safely move 75 lbs. and perform custodial duties with proper technique.
- Ability to safely use a ladder on a regular basis and perform equipment maintenance tasks.
- Receive and follow verbal and written instructions; read and understand SDS labeling requirements.
- Knowledge of OSHA and ISSA safety requirements.
- Snow removal skills and ability to use snow shovels and ice melt solutions.
- Effective communication with a broad range of people and the ability to work with diverse groups across the College.
- Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from various backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
- Must be able to read, write, and do basic arithmetic.
- No experience necessary.
- GED or equivalent.
