Unclaimed Property Fraud Investigator, Career Service Exempt

Incumbents in this job oversee and manage potential fraud investigations into high-risk unclaimed property claims. Oversees Fraud Investigation and coordinates efforts with various unclaimed property functions in other states and with other state agencies' investigative units from other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. This job is NOT public safety certified, and does not require special functions officer certification. Incumbents are not required to respond to situations involving threats to public safety or perform duties that consist of actively preventing or detecting crime, or perform duties that primarily provide community protection.

Incumbents execute and cover operations; interpret, establish, and implement policies and investigative procedures; and provide/conduct training. Incumbents conduct investigations into allegations of individuals and businesses potentially involved in a variety of inappropriate activities, rule infractions, illegal actions, or any other conduct that is in violation of laws and regulations of the State of Utah. Investigations typically include researching and gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and thoroughly documenting the investigation process;

they may also involve serving as an expert witness. Incumbents educate other unclaimed property personnel, including: making hiring recommendations, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
