This is a senior-level job where incumbents demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability gained through related work experience. Under general supervision, you will directly or indirectly assist engineers by applying basic principles, techniques, and methods of science, engineering, and mathematics to routine tasks associated with engineering-related projects.
Actions and decisions are governed by well-established guidelines, and tasks may be performed in the field, in a laboratory, and/or in an office.
The Ideal Candidate- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including design techniques and tools for precision technical plans and blueprints.
- Mathematical Proficiency in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics.
- Construction Knowledge regarding materials and methods involved in the construction or repair of buildings or structures like highways.
- Strong Communication Skills with the ability to listen, understand, and speak so others will clearly understand complex ideas.
- Critical Thinking skills to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.

- Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.

- Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k)).

As an Engineering Technician III, you will:
- Participate in activities including feasibility, materials research, design, concept and scoping, environmental safety, and specifications.
- Analyze, summarize, and review data to report findings and make recommendations.
- Draft correspondence, reports, and other technical written materials.
- Examine and verify documents for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Analyze and test items, interpret results, and implement changes.
- Act as a resource for management and staff, providing technical support within your areas of responsibility.
- Create Geographic Information Systems (GIS) products, using spatial data, analysis, geodatabase management, and the use of industry standard tools.
- Conduct engineering level surveying, including control surveys, construction staking, use of total stations and GNSS/GPS equipment, and data collectors to record precise measurements for future Subsurface Utilities Engineering (SUE) design and location.
- Conduct utility locating by identifying and marking underground utilities using GPS and radio detectors to ensure safe excavation for contractors and maintain compliance with damage prevention regulations.
- Assist in conducting building inspections, to include structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and accessibility for regulatory compliance, safety, and detailed inspection reports.
Security Clearance:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
