Student Employment - America Reads Tutor- Esperanza; Bilingual)(Part-Time

The America Reads Tutor – Esperanza (Bilingual) position provides meaningful, part-time employment for Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) students who qualify for Federal Work-Study. Tutors support elementary‑aged children—primarily from bilingual (Spanish-English) backgrounds—in reading and literacy development. Working closely with the Esperanza school community, tutors foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for students.

• Provide one‑on‑one or small group reading instruction to elementary students, both in English and Spanish as appropriate
• Support classroom teachers with literacy‑related activities and assignments
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor, encouraging student growth and confidence
• Track student progress and maintain accurate, confidential records of tutoring sessions
• Attend required training sessions if it is applicable and check‑ins with program coordinators
• Uphold school and college policies regarding professionalism, confidentiality, and conduct

• Must be enrolled as a student at Salt Lake Community College
• Must qualify for Federal Work‑Study (FWS) funding
• Must be bilingual in English and Spanish (spoken and written)
• Passion for education, literacy, and working with children
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
• Able to pass a background check if required by the school site.
