Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Case Worker – Taunton (2600021S)
The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) is seeking individuals passionate about human services for the position of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Case Worker
. Ideal candidates will provide exceptional customer service to all DTA clients within an action‑based “first available worker” model, consistent with DTA’s self‑sufficiency mission, and navigate a fast‑paced work environment.
Selected candidates will complete SNAP eligibility determination activities and help clients access services that could stabilize or improve their situation, executing case management and case maintenance for a statewide pool of SNAP clients daily.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist clients with determination of initial and ongoing eligibility for transitional assistance programs and employment services.
- Perform all SNAP casework in an action‑based “first available worker” process, through assigned queues.
- Ensure all assigned tasks are accurate and completed to the farthest point of completion.
- Conduct interactive interviews; utilize the agency’s PC‑based eligibility system to obtain and verify client information.
- Perform all tasks related to case maintenance and case management, including assisting with benefits referrals to other state agencies, health care providers and other resources to support individuals and families.
- Prepare and deliver explanations of eligibility decisions.
- Evaluate and monitor client cases to ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations and guidelines.
- Knowledge of the principles and correct usage of the English language involved in writing narratives, including grammar, spelling, sentence structure, word meaning and punctuation.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics.
- Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
- Knowledge of referral sources available for providing services to clients, including community support and social services resources.
- Ability to read, interpret, apply and explain the provisions of laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing agency operations.
- Ability to gather information through questioning, observation and examination of records.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to maintain accurate records, and discretion in handling confidential information.
- Ability to evaluate client data, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships in a team setting.
- Ability to understand persons from different ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds and demonstrate empathy while remaining calm in stressful or emergency situations.
- Ability to work under adverse conditions.
- Proficiency with personal computer (PC) based systems and applications.
- Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Education,Licensure, and Certifications
Education, licensure and certifications will be verified in accordance with the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. Minimum entrance requirements include at least two (2) years of full‑time, or equivalent part‑time, professional or paraprofessional experience in social work or related fields. A bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience as specified in the posting.
