Overview
Reporting to the Supervisor of Imaging, this role provides nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic, therapeutic, non‑invasive or invasive procedures in the Diagnostic Imaging Services Department in accordance with hospital and department established policies and physician orders. All essential functions reflect the age‑specific needs of geriatric, adult, and adolescent patients and foster patient- and family‑centered care in alignment with Brown University Health and Morton Hospital’s mission, vision, and values, considering the life span, developmental stages, and cultural patterns.

performs assessments and data collection by interviewing, reviewing records, and documenting in the electronic medical record; monitors patient condition including vital signs, EKG changes, and initiates appropriate interventions; integrates focused physical assessment with nursing assessment and records to develop a comprehensive, individualized plan of care; defines nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes; implements interventions per plan of care; evaluates interventions based on outcomes;
modifies plan as necessary; administers contrast material, conscious sedation, and monitors patients; recognizes, documents, and assists in treatment of contrast reactions; intervenes in emergency situations; prioritizes patient needs and functions as patient advocate; assesses biological, psychological, sociological, and cultural needs; provides healthcare instruction and procedural information to patients and families; assists with preparation and distribution of patient education materials; assists with compilation of nursing quality assurance activities;
maintains equipment, including emergency equipment, and supplies according to established protocols; may assist with ordering supplies and equipment; maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control; may assist with development of policies and procedures; maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff; assists with orientation of nurses, physicians, technologists, and students; acts as resource for nursing, medical, and radiology staff;
practices cost containment; assists with development and implementation of research projects; participates in committees; provides guidance to CNAs and other licensed personnel; may assume shift charge responsibilities, maintaining oversight of unit activities and delegating work; interacts with other health professionals to maintain continuity of quality patient care; functions cooperatively and productively in the work environment; takes calls per department call policy;
