Position Overview
MH Social Worker at Brown University Health
Responsibilities- Ensures patient dignity and respects patient rights and values.
- Operates within ethical and compliance standards.
- Ensures all regulatory standards and requirements are met (DMH, DPH, CMS, Joint Commission, etc.).
- Participates in the assessment of potential admissions to the Geri Psych Unit, facilitating decisions in a timely manner.
- Able to assess and reassess the needs of the patient.
- Properly documents assessments.
- Communicates the needs of patients effectively.
- Completes psychosocial evaluations on assigned patients in a timely fashion.
- Displays good interviewing, diagnostic, and report‑writing skills.
- Conducts therapies in accordance with patient diagnosis and needs.
- Provides efficient discharge planning throughout the treatment process.
- Completes progress notes and assessments according to program procedures.
- Completes individualized treatment plans for each patient.
- Acts as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Conducts individual psychotherapy sessions in accordance with state/regulatory standards, displaying good theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and good treatment technique.
- Conducts family therapy sessions in accordance with state/regulatory standards, displaying good theoretical knowledge of family therapy principles and good treatment technique.
- Conducts group therapy sessions in accordance with state/regulatory standards, displaying good theoretical knowledge of group therapy principles and good group therapy technique.
- Engages in timely, efficient discharge planning and works in close conjunction with patient, family, nursing staff, and attending physician.
- Has good knowledge of referral/placement process and available community resources.
- Functions cooperatively as a member of the treatment team and provides ongoing education to patient and family as needed.
- Conducts educational group sessions, displaying good theoretical knowledge of subject matter and effective communication skills in presenting material.
- Communicates effectively with families and agencies, conveying a positive, professional image.
- Provides resources and support for patients before, during, and after treatment.
- Actively involved in measuring patient performance and communicates results and trends to supervisor.
- Provides feedback to supervisor on ongoing basis in regards to concerns, improvements, changes, etc.
- Identifies areas needing improvement and utilizes the facility performance improvement process.
- Actively participates in department processes as required.
- Brings significant issues related to program functioning to the Program Director's attention.
- Utilizes feedback regarding performance and uses supervision to improve performance.
- Ensures facility is safe and reports deficiencies to supervisor.
- Completes all required competencies per program regulations and attends all in‑services, seminars, etc. to promote learning.
- Keeps current on CEU requirements to maintain licensure status.
- Completes work assignments within an acceptable time frame, using time and resources to the best possible advantage.
- Develops and maintains efficient working relationships and is reliable in respect to attendance.
- Recognizes the importance of team efforts and partners with others to achieve positive outcomes.
- Is part of a team effort to ensure quality services and offers creative solutions or alternatives to issues or concerns.
- Produces quality results and continually strives to improve the quality of work.
- Accepts responsibility for all work performed and takes appropriate corrective action as needed.
- Follows all hospital and corporate‑wide policies and procedures.
- Two years' experience in the clinical psychiatric setting required (five years preferred), with prior experience in Geriatric Psychiatry preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to function in a fast‑paced environment.
