Overview

Summary:

Responsible for diagnostic and treatment services for clients of all ages with speech and language impairments, hearing disorders, and dysphagia. Maintains a level of clinical productivity commensurate with departmental standards. Responsibilities
  • Administers, diagnoses, and interprets evaluations based on standard/recommended techniques and pertinent background information.
  • Communicates evaluation results and recommendations in a comprehensive manner as reported in patient surveys.
  • Addresses and prioritizes treatment goals in a creative/functional manner within the therapy session to facilitate optimal progress/skill level.
  • Adapts standard evaluation/treatment techniques to elicit relevant and functional data when necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the client/family and uses praise and reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior.
  • Demonstrates realistic expectations of clients, family members, and other professionals cognizant of limitations under which they may be functioning.
  • Maintains regular communication with the client and caregivers concerning treatment techniques, goals, home programs, and discharge transition to facilitate carryover of progress.
  • Writes diagnostic evaluations and treatment progress reports in a clear, concise, and accurate manner within departmental time frames.
  • Organizes and achieves quality performance in new routines, procedures, and skills, and adapts to change.
  • Maintains a minimum standard of productivity per policy and adjusts schedule with workload fluctuations.
  • Accepts emergency/priority clients as assigned and responds to fluctuations in workload by accepting/requesting additional evaluations, rescheduling cancellations, seeing walk-in clients, and developing new service options.
  • Utilizes downtime to perform documentation, self-education, and department projects.
  • Willingly takes on additional departmental responsibilities (e.g., community service, in-services, health fairs, performance improvement) to support department and hospital growth.
  • Initiates and practices constructive confrontation and maintains open communication with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Participates in or initiates efforts to determine innovative solutions to operational problems to improve department efficiency.
  • Ensures all billing duties are completed promptly and accurately.
  • Consistently enforces cancellation/timeliness policies with clients and terminates treatment appropriately when needed.
  • Completes work assignments within acceptable time frames and uses time/resources effectively to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Develops and maintains efficient working relationships and demonstrates reliability in attendance and punctuality.
  • Recognizes the importance of teamwork and collaborates with others to achieve positive outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience with pediatric and adult populations.
  • Demonstrates ongoing professional development through available resources (in-services, formal education, other work groups, on-the-job training).
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-services and/or reviews documentation as required.
  • Assists in orientation of others and actively participates in mentoring.
  • Performs analytical and decision-making functions with minimal supervision and recognizes when to seek assistance/consultation.
  • Understands relative hospital and all-departmental policies and procedures including safety issues.
  • Is aware of programs/services provided by the Hospital and their locations.
Education

Master's Degree in Communication Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology; ASHA Certification/eligibility (CFY);
Mass State License/eligibility.

Pay Range

$35.88-$68.12
