Job Description - Seasonal Mental Health Worker I - 20 Hour - Taunton State Hospital (260000FP)
Seasonal position for an anticipated duration of 90 days. This is a part-time, 20 hours per week role with work schedules 10:30am to 9:00pm or 9:00pm to 7:30am, Sundays and Saturdays. Days off are Monday to Friday. Seasonal positions do not offer employee benefits with the exception of sick time accruals. Employees may be required to perform mandatory overtime.
Responsibilities- Provide direct care services to adult patients on the locked units under the direction of professional nursing staff.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including hygiene, care of living area, and care of personal belongings.
- Take vital signs and monitor intake and output; assist with feeding and personal hygiene.
- Instruct and assist clients in learning skills of daily living to promote independent ADL functioning.
- Utilize a Person First, Person Centered approach and maintain safety as the top priority while respecting the dignity of risk.
- Serve as a client advocate and ensure confidentiality and human rights are maintained.
- Coordinate with senior staff and/or charge nurse to meet clients’ spiritual and other needs as appropriate.
- Required:

- Ability to establish rapport and interact tactfully with persons from varied backgrounds;

- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects or persons.
- Bilingual or multilingual fluency given the population served.
Taunton State Hospital (TSH), operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH), is a 45-bed inpatient facility providing continuing care inpatient services to adults with major mental illnesses. The hospital integrates recovery principles and rehabilitation into its treatment model and collaborates with inpatient teams to facilitate discharge to the community.
