Key Information
- Permanent full-time role – 37 hours per week
- Mobile operative working across Somerset, based out of County Hall, Taunton / Deane Depot, Wellington
- 28 days’ annual leave entitlement plus any applicable bank holidays
As a multi‑skilled Carpenter, you will work for the authorities Building Maintenance (Fabric) division within the Property Maintenance Hard FM Team, part of Somerset Council’s Regulatory & Operational Service. The role requires comprehensive knowledge and a diverse range of skills, including proficiency and certification in carpentry along with transferable skills in basic plumbing, tiling, decorating, patch‑plastering, glazing, aluminium/UPVC window repairs and installs.
- Respond to both planned and reactive maintenance repair requests against set KPIs
- Plan workload effectively and efficiently whilst prioritising the most urgent works
- Participate in an emergency out‑of‑hours call‑out roster
- Manage assigned tasks from start to completion
- Source parts and materials from current supply chain
- Liaise with key stakeholders to plan and organise work
- Comply with industry regulations and H&S legislation

- Holds a relevant trade‑related City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 or equivalent
- Previous experience working in a Facility Management (Hard FM) role
- Good understanding of IT programmes such as Microsoft Outlook, Teams, etc. and Android device OS
- Previous experience with using CAFM systems
- Full UK driving licence, or means to travel across the County including areas not covered by public transport
- Strong organisation & communication skills, both written and verbal
- Forward thinking and initiative with excellent problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team

The salary for this role is £28,598 – £32,061 per annum.
