Responsibilities

Lead planning, implementation and evaluation of outcome‑based livestock programs in Edgecombe County. The role requires expertise in swine, cattle (beef & dairy), lambs, goats, poultry, horses and related livestock production systems. Key duties include:

  • Providing opportunities for animal waste credits and related services.
  • Coordinating with the 4‑H program to lead a successful 4‑H youth livestock program.
  • Operating and marketing the East Carolina Agriculture & Education Center/Livestock Arena.
  • Managing community outreach, field days, and educational programming.
  • Developing and maintaining programs that comply with NC Cooperative Extension, county, and national laws, policies, and guidelines.
  • Assessing and evaluating the agriculture program and services on a regular basis.
  • Collaborating with other Extension programs, staff, agencies and community organizations.
  • Networking with agents, specialists and local ag producers to plan and implement innovative field days/educational programs.
  • Promoting agriculture within the county.

Other work includes educational program development in animal agriculture, 4‑H youth livestock, equine, forages, waste management, farm safety, poultry and dairy education, partnering with county departments (Emergency Services, Animal Control, Soil & Water, NRCS, FSA), business planning guidance, and facility improvements for the Livestock Arena.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum one of the following educational requirements:
    Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural or related field with GPA 2.5 overall (or GPA 3.0 in major), Bachelor’s degree with at least one‑half of Master’s coursework (GPA 3.0+), or Master’s degree in an agricultural or related field.
  • Computer literate.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or related area.
  • Experience in communications, presentation, public relations/marketing, leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking and resource development.
  • Knowledge of local and statewide extension resources.
Work Schedule

Monday‑Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; some evenings and weekends as required.

Compensation

Minimum Salary: $40,000 (Bachelor’s) – $45,000 (Master’s) – $50,000 (Doctorate) at 1.0 FTE, commensurate with experience.
