Fleet Technician (All Tier Levels)

Fleet Technician is a Three‑Tiered job. Incumbents perform repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles and related equipment and provide customer service for small to medium units or functions supporting the Hillsborough County Fleet Management Department.

Compensation Range

$20.50 to $35.25

Starting Salary Range (based on certification tier level and years of experience listed below)

$20.50 to $28.00

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess entry‑level knowledge of vehicle and equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, testing, and diagnostics. The candidate performs entry‑level repair, maintenance, and customer service for a large repair and maintenance operation supporting the Hillsborough County Fleet Management Department. Incumbents in this classification perform the duties of the operation. The candidate will possess a minimum of graduation from High School or possession of a GED certificate.

Tier 2 – The candidate will possess a minimum of “four years” of full‑time documented professional experience in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, or equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job‑related competencies noted.

The candidate will possess an EPA‑approved Section 609 Certification within the probationary period. This position is designated as Mission Essential Group B by the Department Director meaning that the candidate must be able to report to work in support of the continuity of operations and/or emergency support functions. The candidate will possess a valid Florida Driver's License, with no more than seven points within the past 24 months, or a commercial driver’s license.

The candidate must possess a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake endorsement within the probationary period (CDL training assistance will be provided during the probationary period).
