PositionLead Mobile Light/Medium Duty Technician. The role involves performing licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, light and advanced repairs, diagnostics, and customer interaction. The technician mentors field technicians and may perform Mobile Technician Manager duties when absent.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light and medium vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, steering systems, engines (gas only), transmissions (manual/automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, air‑conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and verify they are operating correctly.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy of information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory on the company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work activities and allocate time effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, automotive tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work on Repair Orders (“RO”) via the company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application, including photos and parts used.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently to manage daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and meet or approach standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals for repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Support Mobile Light/Medium Technicians I, II, and Sr. in inventory reconciliation.
- Mentor Mobile Light/Medium Technicians I, II, and Sr. on best practices and techniques to stay within or close to standard repair times.
- Assist the Mobile Tech Manager (MTM) with quality‑control inspections of work performed by other Mobile Light/Medium Technicians.
- High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience, or a comparable combination such as a degree or certification beyond HS with 5 years of experience, or 9 years in a related field.
- Possess necessary hand tools for job duties.
- Complete DOT‐regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or a valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining).
- Be at least 21 years old and hold a current, valid driver’s license, and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Maintain safe driving; be a licensed driver.
- Apply new information to current and future problem solving and decision making.
- Lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
- Endure repetitive tasks without tiring.
- Communicate information succinctly and organize it effectively; engage in two‑way communication.
- Determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
- Accurately judge relative distances between objects.
