Job SummaryTo support company growth, Cox Fleet is hiring a Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician to join our team. This is a dedicated on-site position; we do not provide emergency roadside assistance. The Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician performs certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem-lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, replacement of panels, body and framework.
Work is performed at the customer site. This role is heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complex repairs and may serve as lead on jobsites, acting as a consultant to customers and technicians. A successful Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT Inspections and follow-up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various trailer equipment and systems (e.g., aluminum/chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers).
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
- Document work per company standards and upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using an iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Follow safe operating practices and procedures.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, and conduct safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Apply knowledge from formal training or on-the-job experience to perform duties; interpret technical information related to the job.
- Coordinate with clients to assess needs, provide information, resolve issues, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work effectively.
- Maintain integrity and confidentiality, adhering to ethical and professional standards.
- Respond to call-center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support team to obtain approvals for repair estimates and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Participate in required safety training.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Maintain the service truck, conduct safety checks, and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures; stay up to date on safety protocols.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment and systems (as listed above).
- Identify problems, assess information, and generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using appropriate tools.
- Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics and support Technicians I/II with inventory reconciliation.
- Advise on technical issues and provide guidance on diagnostics and repairs.
- Perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs (in coordination with Technicians I/II).
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ related experience; alternative combinations such as higher-level degree/certification with corresponding experience may apply.
- Must possess and provide a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Participate in and complete all required company training.
- Compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations; ability to complete and pass pre-employment DOT background screening and DOT physical.
- DOT medical card is acceptable in lieu of a DOT physical if valid for more than 4 months; otherwise a DOT physical is required.
- Candidates must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain Driver Qualification File.
