Job Summary

To support the growth of the company, Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician. This is a dedicated on-site position and we do not provide emergency side of the road repairs. The Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician will perform certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem‑lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, replacement of panels, body, and framework.

Work is performed at the customer's site. The role is heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs by Mobile Trailer Technician I/II, and is considered the Lead on jobsites by customers and technicians. The candidate must comply with all company policies and achieve high level performance metrics.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum, chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
  • Document work in Repair Orders using the proprietary TRAIT application, uploading photos of work performed and parts used.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation timely.
  • Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Manage parts inventory on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks, pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
  • Apply knowledge from formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform tasks and evaluate technical information.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs and resolve problems.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Act with integrity, honesty, and confidentiality, adhering to ethical and professional standards.
  • Respond to call center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
  • Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity within or close to standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Participate and complete all company required safety training.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with assigned customers and vendors.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on various trailer equipment and systems.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations.
  • Assist mobile trailer technicians with diagnostics and inventory reconciliation.
  • Advise technicians on technical issues.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field; or a degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED with 3 years’ experience; or 7 years’ experience in a related field.
