The incumbent will perform scheduled preventive maintenance on FWC inboard/outboard motors, boats, trailers and vehicles including radios, blue lights and sirens. They will assist field offices in tracking marine engine preventive maintenance hours and dates, repair marine engines and drive systems, diagnose issues identified in work requests, and handle law‑enforcement radio repairs. The position includes removal and disassembly of engines or components for diagnosis, routine and special checks, installation of engines per manufacturer specifications, test runs, and adjustments.

The incumbent will also repair and install mobile and portable radios, marine electrical components, and other law‑enforcement electronic equipment, prepare documentation, maintain inventory records, and ensure accurate reporting within required time frames. Additionally, they will maintain the assigned service vehicle, tools and equipment, perform preventative maintenance on specialized tools, keep the shop area clean, and review current shop manuals and technical literature for all marine equipment serviced.

The role also involves managing parts and supplies inventory, using electronic test equipment, repairing boat trailers, and fulfilling special projects, details, disasters deployments, and fleet‑wide implementations related to patrol vehicles and vessels. Proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and operating all agency outboard motors, trailers, vessels, and specialized law‑enforcement equipment is required.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must pass a Level 2 background check if selected.
• Must have working knowledge necessary to accomplish routine marine equipment repair.
• Must be able to work on marine, land‑based mechanical and electrical/electronic equipment.
• Must be able to diagnose and repair a wide variety of electronic, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
• Must possess computer and administrative skills to complete reports in a timely manner.
• Must be able to travel on short notice and possibly for an extended period of time.
• Must be able to operate vessels from 16–36 feet.
• Must have at least 2 years’ experience working at a retail or government marine repair facility as a mechanic.
• Must have received formal training from at least two of the following manufacturers: BRP, Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, or Honda.
