Storm Duty RequirementsTampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.
Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.
TECO Energy and its companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our TECO Energy customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Position ConceptThe Garage Mechanic I, II, & III (GM I, II, & III) is a multi-level classification progression responsible for performing all phases of repair, service and/or fabrication on Tampa Electric Company’s fleet and equipment. The complexity of tasks performed varies based on prescribed classification level (see IBEW Intent Book for representative duties by classification). The scope of this position shall include those responsibilities defined in Exhibit “A” of the IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or the IBEW Intent Book where the position is at a lesser rate of pay.
PrimaryDuties and Responsibilities
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairs to Tampa Electric Company’s light vehicles, heavy‑duty truck, and heavy‑equipment fleet which includes gasoline engines, diesel engines, drive train, brakes, suspension & steering, electrical/electronic systems.
- Perform automotive troubleshooting and repairs in engine repair, automatic transmission & transaxle, manual drive train and axles, suspension & steering, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, heating & air conditioning and engine performance.
- Perform vehicle and non‑vehicle welding and/or fabrication.
- Perform all phases of troubleshooting and repairs to mobile hydraulic equipment and/or systems (aerial lifts, digger derricks, and cranes, etc.).
- Perform all phases of troubleshooting and repairs to construction equipment (bulldozers, front‑end loaders, etc.).
- Perform preventative maintenance routines on vehicular and non‑vehicular equipment.
- Complete all work in line with job‑related Safe Work Practices, work rules, and regulatory/environmental requirements.

External: May interact with equipment manufacturers and/or suppliers, and other vendors.
Qualifications Education/TrainingRequired: High School diploma or equivalent. Commercial Driver License Class A (general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicle) with H endorsement required. Certain Tampa Electric specific and national certifications are required for this position, refer to the IBEW Intent Book.
