The Armed Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, visitors, and guests. This position is responsible for responding promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including active threats and alarm activations, while enforcing institutional policies such as the weapons‑free campus. The officer conducts regular security patrols, monitors surveillance systems, and investigates incidents to uphold safety standards.
Additionally, the role involves assisting with calls for medical aid, managing sensitive situations like employee terminations and prisoner security, and providing exceptional customer service by supporting screening processes, access control, and visitor assistance. This position demands vigilance, sound judgment, and the ability to manage diverse security‑related tasks with professionalism and care.
- Ensures that security‑sensitive areas are properly secured.
- Monitors camera systems and uses cameras to assist in investigations. Observes and reports on security and safety issues.
- Reports equipment alarms to responsible parties.
- Check functionality of card access devices and doors.
- Conducts smoking patrols and enforces Center policies.
- Conducts investigations and completes written reports on suspected criminal activity, workplace violence, employee misconduct, slip, trip, and fall incidents.
- Responds to calls for service of medical assistance, employee terminations, patient security, patient medication transport.
- Responds to reported crimes in progress and provides assistance to law enforcement, critical incidents, and duress alarms.
- High School Education/GED required.
- A minimum of five(5) yearsof security experience in a hospital setting is required.
- Law enforcement, military service, or military police experience may be substituted on a one-for-one basis.
- A valid Florida driver’s license is required upon hire.
- Florida Class "G" Firearm License within 90 days of hire
- BLS w/CPR (must obtain within six (6) months of hire)
- Florida Class "D" Security Officer License obtain within 90 days of hire)
- 10 years of law enforcement experience. Supervisory experience in law enforcement or a hospital security setting.
- Investigative experience.
- Law Enforcement Investigations experience.
- Experience as a supervisor.
- Experience working with video monitoring technology.
- Experience with report writing software.
- IAHSS Basic and Advanced Certifications.
