Position: Asst 6 hr, Stdt Nutr
Overview

The Assistant 6 Hour, Student Nutrition follows all HACCP and Student Nutrition Services (SNS) guidelines. The role performs manual work in the preparation, serving and cashiering of federal reimbursable meals and a la carte foods to students and staff, under immediate supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares, cooks and serves all food items, including hot and cold items, ensuring correct portion sizes and replenishing the serving line.
  • Takes food temperatures during preparation and serving; records temperatures according to procedure; follows procedures for corrective action if items are not in established temperature safe zones.
  • Sets up serving line, obtains paper products and utensils, and displays foods attractively.
  • Provides friendly and respectful customer service; acknowledges students by name and thanks customers; keeps serving area neat; encourages healthy food choices.
  • Enters meal components correctly, documents emergency meal transactions, handles cash and checks accurately, checks alerts for special diets, and follows end-of-day cash-control procedures.
  • Receives and checks in food, checks out food for production, and organizes storage areas, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Maintains program accountability by complying with federal, state, and local rules and regulations; records production, HACCP, meal accountability and cash procedures; ensures compliance with district policies.
  • Ensures serving line is clean; stores all food, beverages and paper goods properly; assists with overall kitchen cleanup.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Experience:

    Sufficient kitchen or cooking experience to acquire the required knowledge and ability.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Reads and interprets safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; writes routine reports and correspondence; speaks effectively before groups; basic working English.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Performs basic arithmetic (two-digit additions/subtractions; multiplication and division with tens and hundreds). Uses units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Follows detailed written or oral instructions; solves problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Basic computer skills.
  • Physical Demands:
    Walking, standing, stooping, handling, talking, hearing, keyboarding; lifting up to 35 pounds; reaching with both hands; exposure to typical kitchen environmental conditions.
