Summary
Molecular Genomics Core Research Specialist III
The Molecular Genomics Core provides high quality services in genomics in support of basic and clinical science research to identify molecular components and signatures associated with cancer biology and response to therapy. The Core staff is highly trained and provides expertise in a variety of instrumentation platforms as well as guidance in study design and grant preparation. The Core staff develops and provides cutting-edge technology with a focus on facilitating precision medicine benefits to the clinical research enterprise.
The Molecular Genomics Core works closely with other Cores to provide seamless integration of sample preparation and isolation into molecular workflows and coordination of downstream analysis by the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource.
We are seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Research Specialist III to assist with the development and improvement of current and future Core technologies and services in a positive, but fast-paced environment.
The position will initially be based at our Magnolia Campus. Ultimately, the position will be located at Moffitt at Speros in Land O’Lakes, FL once the facility opens mid-July 2026.
This position may require work at other institutional locations, including Magnolia Campus, as needed.
Ideal Candidate:
- Will have significant hands-on experience in NGS sequencing library preparation and Illumina sequencer setup and operation.
- Should be proficient at qPCR library quantification, Covaris DNA fragmentation, and Tape Station/Bio Analyzer QC analysis. Services supported may include library preparation for bulk mRNA and total RNA-seq, amplicon and capture-based whole-exome and targeted sequencing, 10X single-cell sequencing (RNA-seq, VDJ-seq, ATAC-seq, and feature barcoding), T cell repertoire (TCR) sequencing, and ATAC-seq. Microarray technologies supported include Illumina Infinium and Affymetrix arrays, and Nano String nCounter technology
- Will have experience interpreting QC data from software including FASTQC, and the Base Space RNA-seq and DNA enrichment applications. Experience with using or implementing automation solutions on Bio Mek and Perkin Elmer Sciclone liquid handling robotic instrumentation is a plus.
- Master's degree in related field is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Drafting of SOPs, project quoting and billing, training of lab members, supporting cell authentication services, and assisting in the development of new Core services.
- The Research Specialist III will interface with customers of the Molecular Genomics Core and will work closely with Core staff and vendors to support current Core services.
Credentials and
Qualifications:
- Bachelor'sdegree in Science or Biotechnology related field with a minimum of 5 years hands on experience in area of expertise molecular biology and or genomics assays. or a (Molecular Biology). These should include nucleic acid QC, PCR, quantitative PCR, column and bead-based nucleic acid purification, microarray processing, and must include next-generation sequencing library preparation and QC.
- Experience in molecular biology with demonstrated support of a wide array of genomics technologies in the microarray and next-generation sequencing (NGS) areas, with automation experience a plus.
