Summary
We are seeking motivated candidates to support our mission of developing patient-derived microtumor models for rare cancers. The goal of this work is to establish faithful, patient-representative tumor models that enable mechanistic studies and therapeutic testing to better understand and predict treatment responses in a patient-specific manner.
Dr. Nguyen is a faculty member and Principal Investigator in the Department of Bioengineering, and Dr. Grass is an Associate Member and Section Chief of Genitourinary Oncology in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center. The Research Associate will work closely with Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Grass’s research teams.
The Research Associate I assumes the responsibility of performing basic, biological, behavioral, social science or public health research within the specified research program. The Research Associate provides technical and analytical support for various research programs across all Moffitt divisions and may have administrative and training responsibilities, as assigned. Research Associates work under the general supervision of a Principal Investigator (Pl) and may work as part to of a team under the direct supervision of more senior lab personnel.
Research Associates participate in the planning, development, and implementation of original experimental procedures within the overall scope of the project.
Position Highlights:
- The research Associate will learn advanced 3D tissue culture techniques ranging from organoid to patient-derived tissue culture
- The research Associate will learn advanced microscopy techniques, materials characterizations with Atomic Force Microscope.
- Opportunities to work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers, cancer biologists, and physician-scientists while contributing to research on rare tumor models.
- Responsible for data analysis using innovative procedures and protocols with supervision.
- Research Associates perform data analysis, participate in meetings with PI and other team members to evaluate and interpret the validity of data and evaluate laboratory procedures.
- Research Associates prepare progress reports, write protocols, create presentations and assist in the publication of research whether at scientific meetings or in the form of manuscripts.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Demonstrate ability to communicate professionally, work independently, and maintain a high level of enthusiasm and initiative.
- Strong willingness to learn and actively collaborate with team members both within and across research groups.
- Prior experience with mammalian cell culture and basic aseptic techniques.
- Should be able to assist in training new staff in areas of expertise, and serve as a resource to other lab members.
