A time‑limited full‑time Research Scientist (Staff) position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Bong Sook Jhun. The role involves studying mitochondrial fission/fusion and calcium dynamics in heart health and disease using isolated cardiac mitochondria, primary cells, tissues, and in vivo animal models.
Responsibilities- 25% Generating rat models of cardiovascular diseases and performing BSL‑1 and BSL‑2 research with these models.
- 20% Managing a transgenic mouse colony, genotyping, and performing BSL‑1 and BSL‑2 cardiovascular disease research.
- 20% Collaborating with lab staff on molecular/cell biology projects.
- 20% Assisting with product ordering, lab organization, updating protocols, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- 15% Attending weekly laboratory meetings, meeting with Principal Investigators to discuss progress, and developing work plans. Practice safe work habits, adhere to university policies and procedures, and complete required training.
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in a biological science or related field.
- Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
- Eligibility to work under the Florida Senate Bill 1310, which allows substitution of experience for education.
- Experience in molecular or cell biological methods and/or in vivo cardiovascular disease models.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
