Job Summary
A time‑limited full‑time Research Scientist (Staff) position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Bong Sook Jhun at the Heart Institute, Hypertension and Kidney Research Center, Department of Molecular Pharmacology & Physiology, Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida (USF) Health. The Jhun Lab studies the roles of mitochondrial fission/fusion and calcium dynamics in healthy and diseased hearts using isolated cardiac mitochondria, primary cells, tissues, and in‑vivo animal models.
Minimum QualificationsCandidates should have a Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) OR an equivalent of four years of direct experience in a biological science or related field. Degree Equivalency Clause (SB 1310):
- Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree
- Two years of direct experience for an associate degree
- Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree
- Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree
- Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
- Related work experience may not substitute for required licensure, certification or registration
- Minimum qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310
- Experience in molecular or cell biological methods and/or in‑vivo cardiovascular disease models
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Salary will be determined based on years of experience following USF guidelines. This position may be subject to a Level 1 or Level 2 criminal background check.
