Position: Veterinary Assistant – Surgery team
Overview: Blue Pearl Surgery Assistant will be responsible for post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
Schedule: Mon–Thu (8:00 am–6:00 pm); schedule may be flexible with hours.
Pay: $21.25–$30.00 per hour. This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.
Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Perform physical exams; accurately monitor heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
- Set up intravenous fluids and administer subcutaneous fluids.
- Operate all brands of IV fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
- Disconnnect/connect patients from IV fluids aseptically.
- Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

Continuing Education and Benefits
- Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS, with rollover up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates receive 8 CE paid hours annually. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 CE paid hours annually. Paid CE hours can be carried over year-to-year up to 24 hours.
