Part‑Time Veterinary Technician – Surgery
Blue Pearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician to join our single‑specialty surgery team. This role focuses on orthopedics, soft tissue, neurological, and other procedures with no ER service, no weekend hours, and a closed schedule for the six major holidays each year.
Minimum experience required: two or more years in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on‑call schedule is required once training has been completed.
Pay: $20 – $40 per hour (starting point dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system).
Schedule: Part‑time, Tuesdays and Thursdays (subject to change).
Responsibilities- Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards and core values.
- Take the patient through the entire procedure from start to finish.
- Pre‑op:
Comfortable with intubation, induction, post‑operative diagnostics, and prepping patients for surgery. - Peri‑op:
Monitor anesthesia and troubleshoot as needed. - Post‑op:
Hospitalization care, radiographs, pain management, extubating, fluid therapy. - Comfortable with assessing patients, collecting vitals, and performing physical exams.
- Accurately count heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
- Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal; set up constant rate infusions (CRI).
- Setup intravenous fluids, administer subcutaneous fluids, operate all brands of IV fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
- Disconnect and connect patients from IV fluids aseptically; monitor patient response to fluid therapy, including signs of overload.
- Client communication regarding patient histories, care instructions, lab results, and patient updates.
