Summary
We are currently seeking a Nursing Quality & Patient Safety Specialist
:
The Nursing Quality & Patient Safety Specialist will be responsible for supporting the efforts of the Department of
Nursing to optimize patient safety and quality in all aspects of nursing care delivery. This will be position will support the
Nursing Department in identifying safety and quality opportunities within the nursing departments. The Specialist will
act as a subject expert consultant in best practices for performance improvement methodology as well as regulatory
guidance. This position will gather data via chart audits, safety reports, and informatics reports and formulate data and
clinical information into a meaningful presentable fashion for appropriate Nursing Committees/Councils and nursing
leadership to make informed decisions based on accurate information. This position will be responsible for working with
the nursing staff and nursing leadership to establish meaningful peer review audits for performance evaluation. This
Nursing Quality & Patient Safety Specialist will function as the liaison between the nursing committees/councils, nursing
performance improvement teams and patient safety initiatives in order to keep the nursing leadership informed and
loop closure. This position will serve on Nursing committees related to quality and safety and work along with Risk
Management to ensure processes are in place and monitored to support the success of change. In addition, this position
will lead performance improvement teams that nursing deems important to improve the process and care of the patients. This position requires excellent communication skills, clinical skills, critical thinking, understanding of the nursing process, project management skills, regulatory, patient safety, data analysis, team building, and change leadership skills.
EDUCATION:
Minimum
Required:
Bachelor's Degree of Nursing
Preferred:
Masters of Nursing or related field.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current RN License
Preferred: BLS
Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality
(CPHQ) Specialty Certification (i.e. OCN,CCRN, CNOR)
Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS)
Clinical Nurse Specialist/ Clinical Nurse Leader
Minimum
Required Experience:
Registered Nurse Clinical Experience 5 Years
Experience with leading evidence-based practice or performance improvement initiatives at the unit level
Developing and implementing action plans.
Essential Function:
Develop and maintain an expertise in the field of data analysis, performance improvement, peer review, nursing policies
and standards, and related Joint Commission standards, including Provision of Patient Care and Waived Testing

Specific Duties :
Monitor literature and other sources related to nursing performance improvement and patient safety to identify
best practices and measurement
Active involvement in professional societies
Educate nurses about the principles of performance improvement and management of data
Educate nurses about the use of performance improvement data in a Fair and Just Culture
Monitor changes in and become an expert resource for the Joint Commission Provision of Patient Care and Waived
Testing standards
