Description
The Medical Oncology, Hematology Oncology, BMT/Cell Therapy and Neurology Oncology APP functions as an independent healthcare provider. Working collaboratively within a health team, the APP is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients, with a specific focus on cancer patients in active treatment. The APP demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in acute and chronic oncology care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and families.
The APP applies advanced medical clinical knowledge, effective communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems‑based practice to ensure safe, effective, quality patient care and to advance educational and research missions.
- Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients.
- Establish medical diagnoses in collaboration with the physician.
- Oversee treatment infusions and provide supportive care.
- Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice, including chemotherapy.
- Manage general medical and surgical conditions based on knowledge of pharmacologic agents and other treatment modalities.
- Provide appropriate direction to clinic staff regarding follow‑up patient care issues.
- Communicate effectively with referring and primary health care providers and other care team members.
- Manage independent outpatient clinical practice and coverage for collaborating physicians.
- Maintain accurate, complete, concise, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record according to group practice standards.
- Participate in medical oncology/hematology specific clinical quality and research projects.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, wellness care, and survivorship plans.
- Participate in learning opportunities.
- Accept on‑call coverage assignments, including inpatient, outpatient, various oncology specialties, weekend, and holiday coverage.
- Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from an accredited Nursing Program for Nurse Practitioners.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited PA Program for Physician Assistants.
- Active RN and APRN license in the State of Florida.
- Active board certification as an NP in Adult, Adult/Gerontology, Acute Care, or Family scope.
- For inpatient care, Acute Care Certification is required.
- Active PA license in the State of Florida.
- Active PA board certification.
- Oncology experience preferred.
