Welder/Fitter
Opportunity is located Newport News, VA paying $45 and $140 in per diem
We are seeking an experienced Advanced Ship fitter with a minimum of four years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class Ship fitter. The ideal candidate will have extensive skills in single pass tack welding, burning, heating, and the ability to read and comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches.
Responsibilities- Perform single pass tack welding using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process.
- Use oxygen/propane burning and heating torches.
- Read and interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines.
- Measure and comprehend fractional dimensions using a ruler.
- Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly.
- Assemble structural piece parts according to specifications ensuring quality.
- Work effectively in physically demanding environments such as shipbuilding and steel fabrication.
- Comply with OSHA regulations relevant to the shipbuilding industry.
- Use vibratory tools such as grinders and needle guns.
Skills & Qualifications
- Four years of commercial/naval experience as a first-class Ship fitter
- Ability to pass a Single Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test using SMAW process with MIL-M (A-5A) filler metal in vertical up (3F) and overhead (4F) positions
- Ability to pass multiple pass tack weld tests, including practice and visual inspection
This is a Contract position based out of Tampa, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
