Custodian

The Custodian will perform daily cleaning, minor maintenance, yard duties, and assigned tasks in order to provide a clean and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities.

• Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance. Physical presence is expected as part of a reliable and predictable pattern of attendance.

• Maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.
• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and burnish floors, as well as vacuums and shampoos carpets, as applicable; cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restrooms; cleans and dusts all horizontal and vertical surfaces as assigned; removes and disposes of waste products daily; maintains clean custodial closets.
• Performs minor non-cleaning maintenance tasks of facility, including but not limited to changing light bulbs, changing toilet seats, unclogging toilets, changing ceiling tiles, touching up paint, securing window(s), delivering supplies, setting up for facility activities/meetings, and assembling/moving furniture.
• Follows a lawn and facility maintenance program, including but not limited to mowing, weeding, weed-eating, edging, trimming, fertilizing, minor plant replacement, mulching, blowing off sidewalks/curbs, watering, pressure washing, and graffiti removal, as appropriate.
• Opens or closes and secures facility, including gates, doors, windows, and alarm systems. Turns on/off all lights, ensuring grounds and facility are free of debris and hazards. Responds to emergencies by securing the perimeter.
• Performs work duties independently and/or as part of a custodial crew depending on the task; works cooperatively in group situations; displays a positive outlook and pleasant manner; offers assistance and support to co-workers; and works actively to resolve conflicts.
• Assumes modified duties and responsibilities of the Head Custodian or Custodial Crew Leader in the event of absence or vacancy.
• Possesses basic working English language skills.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.

• Experience:
  
  One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in large scale housekeeping, custodial, or building and grounds maintenance work.
• Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
  All new and current employees are encouraged to complete the Custodial Operations Career Advancement training program through Hillsborough County Public Schools.
• Language
  
  Skills:
  
  Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Writes simple correspondence. Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations. Must possess basic comprehensive skills of the working English language.
• Mathematical
  
  Skills:
  
  Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Perform these operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance.
• Reasoning Ability:
  Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions. Deals with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
