LAW ENFORCEMENT INVESTIGATOR II - (Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations)

Responsibilities- Conduct extensive investigations including following up on leads, conducting interviews, executing search warrants and making arrests.
- Interview witnesses and interrogate suspects to secure background information.
- Identify and arrest criminal suspects and prepare evidence for presentation to the prosecuting attorney.
- Provide expert testimony at legal proceedings and assist in the preparation of witnesses, victims and evidence for the prosecution.
- Identify, recruit, document and supervise confidential sources as per Division Policies and Procedures.
- Collect, seize, protect, maintain, transport and document evidence consistent with statutes, current case law and Division Policies and Procedures.
- Apply surveillance techniques and undercover capabilities as needed.
- Provide investigative support to Division personnel and other public safety entities.
- Develop strategic and tactical intelligence.
- Monitor arrests, prosecutions and forfeitures and maintain liaison with the Prosecutor.
- Conduct thorough background investigations into potential Department employees.
- Establish and maintain liaison with other entities.
- Perform disaster‑related duties as requested.
- Provide complete and accurate collection of data and information for evaluation and dissemination.
- Demonstrate initiative and organizational skills in conducting investigative activities.
- Prepare and implement investigative plans focused on objectives necessary for prosecution and case closure.
- Display creative planning and seek innovative resolutions.
- Meet goals, objectives and assignments efficiently and timely.
- Allocate resources to maximize efficiency and successful case completion.
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and monitor expenditures.
- Develop case targets.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Active Certified Florida Law Enforcement Officer with a passing score on the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification Examination, or completion of the Florida Equivalency of Training (CJSTC 76) with eligibility to receive Law Enforcement Certification.
- Valid Driver’s License from the Florida Department of Safety and Motor Vehicles by the time of employment.
- Three (3) or more years of sworn law‑enforcement experience.
- Live no more than 50 miles from the assigned duty station (office) as determined by geodesic distance.
- Security background check, including fingerprinting, is required.
- A degree from an accredited college or university (College education can be substituted at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of one year required experience).
- Bilingual verbal and written skills that meet a critical need of the agency’s mission.
- Note:
Correctional Officer and Correctional Probational Officer Certifications do not meet the requirements of the job description.
