Lighthouse Riskis currently seeking a Commercial Property Underwriter to join our team in Tampa, FL.
Position Overview:
The Commercial Property Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business within the MGA’s appetite, managing broker relationships, and contributing to the profitable growth of the portfolio. This role is ideal for an underwriter ready to take the next step in responsibility and impact within a fast-growing entrepreneurial environment.
Risk Evaluation & Underwriting
- Assess, price, and underwrite commercial property submissions (E&S focus) within authority levels.
- Review exposures, loss history, and risk quality to recommend appropriate terms and conditions.
- Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and profitability objectives.
Broker Engagement
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with brokers (retail and wholesale).
- Provide responsive, clear communication on submissions and appetite.
- Support business development through proactive broker outreach.
- Contribute to the achievement of team production and profitability goals.
- Identify opportunities for cross-sell and portfolio optimization.
- Monitor renewal retention and performance of assigned accounts.
- Partner with senior underwriters on larger or more complex risks.
- Share insights on market trends, pricing shifts, and competitor activity.
- Contribute to underwriting process improvements and adoption of tech tools.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of commercial property underwriting experience, preferably in the E&S market
. - Working knowledge of habitational, hospitality, or retail property risks.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and price risk accurately.
- Solid communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented MGA.
- Proficiency with underwriting systems, rating tools, and MS Office suite.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred
- Professional certification in relevant field
