Technical Writer Security Clearance

Technical Writer – Full Time – Onsite – TS/SCI Clearance Required

Steel Gate LLC is hiring a full‑time Technical Writer to join our team and support U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). In partnership with Peraton, we develop, document, structure, implement, and coordinate USSOCOM’s IT service management processes, procedures, and performance, continually improving all IT service areas. This role assists in creating and maintaining clear, concise, and user‑friendly documentation while collaborating with technical and non‑technical teams under the mentorship of the Governance Lead.

• Assist in content creation: draft and edit user guides, educational materials, and internal process documentation.
• Gather information: work with subject matter experts (SMEs), developers, and other team members to collect and fact‑check information.
• Edit and format content: ensure existing documentation is accurate, clear, and consistent with standards, guides, and templates.
• Maintain documentation: help maintain the documentation repository, track changes, and manage updates as products evolve.
• Learn new tools and processes: attend workshops and training sessions to develop technical writing skills and familiarize with industry products.
• Prepare meeting materials: assist with preparation and capture accurate notes to ensure key information and outputs are documented effectively.

• TS/SCI Clearance Required
• Some experience through internships or a strong portfolio of writing samples.
• Excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
• Proficient with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Products, Visio, SharePoint, or content management systems.
• Ability to learn new technical concepts quickly and translate them into easily digestible content.
• 2‑5 years of experience in a journalism, English, or similar role, including internships.
• Portfolio: a strong portfolio demonstrating your writing skills and ability to explain complex information simply.

• Many employers are more impressed by a candidate’s existing knowledge of a specific technical field (e.g., cybersecurity, engineering) than the writing certification itself.

• Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC)
• Technical Writer HQ (TW HQ) Certification
• Certified Technical Writer (CTW)

• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated ability in performance optimization and system engineering processes.

Less than 10% travel may be required.

• A bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related field such as business administration or Information Technology (preferred). Higher levels of education are also desirable.
