The Data Governance & Metadata Scientist supports mission-critical objectives under the referenced work order by establishing, managing, and enforcing metadata and data governance practices across enterprise and geospatial data environments. This role requires specialized expertise in metadata frameworks, data lineage, and compliance with Department of Defense data and geospatial standards.

Job Description- The Data Governance & Metadata Scientist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining metadata governance frameworks for structured and unstructured data in cloud-based environments. This includes defining metadata standards, ensuring consistency across platforms, and supporting enterprise data discoverability and interoperability.
- The role involves tracking data lineage and maintaining synchronization of metadata across data catalogs, ESRI platforms, Kubernetes-based data services, and enterprise metadata repositories. The scientist will leverage metadata and lineage tools such as Open Lineage, Apache Atlas, or equivalent technologies to support traceability, auditability, and governance reporting.
- Additional responsibilities include enforcing compliance with DoD metadata policies and National System for Geospatial Intelligence (NSG) tradecraft standards for geospatial datasets. The Data Governance & Metadata Scientist will collaborate closely with data engineers, geospatial teams, security personnel, and program stakeholders to ensure metadata accuracy, policy adherence, and lifecycle governance across mission systems.
The contractor shall provide personnel who meet one of the following requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Data Science, Information Management, GIS, or a related discipline; or
- A minimum of five (5) years of equivalent professional experience in data governance, metadata management, or geospatial data integration.
- Implementing metadata governance frameworks for structured and unstructured data in cloud-based environments.
- Tracking data lineage and ensuring metadata synchronization across enterprise data catalogs, ESRI platforms, Kubernetes-based data services, and metadata repositories.
- Utilizing metadata and lineage management tools such as Open Lineage, Apache Atlas, or similar technologies.
- Enforcing compliance with DoD metadata policies and NSG tradecraft standards for geospatial datasets.
- Strong understanding of data governance, metadata standards, and data lifecycle management.
- Experience operating within government or highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of geospatial data management and integration practices.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Ability to translate governance requirements into technical implementations.
- Bachelors degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Desirable Certifications (Preferred, Not Required)
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
- DAMA Certified Data Governance Professional (DGSP)
- ESRI Geospatial Data Management Certification
- An ability to obtain and maintain a clearance if needed.
