Position Details
Information Technology and Security at University of Tampa has an opening for an Academic Accessibility Technologist
. The incumbent will streamline accessibility and compliance requirements, giving faculty a roadmap and actionable items to create and remediate accessible digital content. This will require working with multiple others on campus, such as the UTAMPA Online, Student Accessibility Services, Communications and Public Affairs, faculty committees, and others as appropriate. This position reports directly to the Director of ITS Academic Solutions.
- Manage ITS website accessibility edits to ensure compliance with WCAG, ADA, and Section 508 standards.
- Supervise and mentor digital course accessibility student interns, providing guidance on document remediation and accessibility best practices.
- Conduct UTAMPA Online (UTO) course accessibility reviews, analyzing Ally reports and recommending improvements for LMS content.
- Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
- Generate institutional Ally accessibility reports and share actionable insights with stakeholders.
- Audit overall compliance and develop strategies to improve accessibility awareness and adherence.
- Identify accessibility trends and create remediation plans for courses with significant or recurring violations.
- Stay current on WCAG, ADA, and Section 508 standards.
- Deliver training for faculty and staff who create or edit academic content.
- Schedule and coordinate accessibility‑related events, workshops, and faculty training sessions.
- Provide targeted accessibility training and remediation support for faculty.
- Coordinate and lead Accessibility Compliance Workshops, Accessibility Week and Fix Your Content Day for faculty each year.
- Facilitate new full‑time faculty training annually and adjunct faculty training each semester, plus additional programming throughout the academic year.
- Collaborate with department chairs, directors, and course coordinators to develop accessible templates for syllabi, schedules, rubrics, and other course documents.
- Create and maintain universal design templates for academic content to ensure compliance and usability.
- Provide expert guidance for faculty in remediating complex documents (e.g., PDFs, Power Points, equations, etc.) that cannot be automatically fixed by Ally or require advanced accessibility adjustments.
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design and Technology or related degree required.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to assess accessibility and business requirements.
- Strong understanding of accessibility laws and guidelines, such as section 508 and WCAG standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accessibility concepts clearly.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in managing compliance standards.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Ability to quickly learn and use University of Tampa systems, including Workday, Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Canvas LMS.
- Demonstrated adaptability and willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative practices.
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Summer – Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
