This hybrid position is based out of our Tampa, FL office. We expect in‑office attendance two days each week (Tuesday‑Wednesday), with additional days as required during the month.
OverviewThe Senior Health Data Scientist will lead and serve as a subject matter expert on complex data extracts, programming, and analytical modeling to support the team’s services to internal and external clients. The Senior position provides guidance and support to junior staff. The team comprises research scientists, health service researchers, health economists, clinicians, and project managers who conceptualize, execute, and deliver qualitative, analytical, and strategy-based work products for clients.
We also collaborate with other practices, applying the full scope of the firm’s knowledge base to develop multi‑disciplinary creative solutions on behalf of our clients.
- Lead collaborative teams of health services researchers and business analysts to extract insights from large administrative claims datasets, electronic medical records, and various healthcare registry datasets.
- Identify and develop solutions to key strategic business problems using high‑level modeling and statistical analytic techniques.
- Utilize SQL for advanced‑level data extraction, transformation, and data management; fully document and manage source code and algorithms.
- Develop and test hypotheses to support research and product offerings and communicate findings clearly and action ably to clients.
- Respond to and lead complex operational data requests, creating ad‑hoc queries for research projects.
- Collaborate with Inovalon’s Enterprise Data Management, Data Integration, MORE2 Registry®, and iPORT+™ teams to resolve data issues and improve efficiency and scalability of product and production data processes.
- Troubleshoot complex production‑related issues and coordinate successful resolution.
- Assist in evaluating data analytic vendors and tools.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and mission statement.
- Adhere to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined in company Operating Policies and Procedures.
- Uphold separation of duties for applicable processes and procedures within the job function.
- Change job description as business needs dictate with notice of such changes.
- 5+ years of professional experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industries working with administrative claims data and big data.
- Strong SQL programming skills and working knowledge of statistical analysis tools such as SAS, R, SPSS, Stata, and/or MATLAB.
- Demonstrated problem solving, analytical reasoning, and decision‑making skills.
- Strong understanding and experience in researching and resolving data issues with large, complex, and incomplete sources.
- Business analytical skills (process flows, procedures, spreadsheets, modeling, etc.) and good understanding of design and architecture principles.
- Strong project management skills with ability to work independently on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of database management tools (e.g., Hadoop, Hive, Map Reduce).
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret results from advanced statistical techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in IT and business environments, capable of communicating to technical and non‑technical audiences.
