Manager 1 - Labor/Employee Relations

The Senior Employee Relations & Labor Relations (ER/LR) Manager will lead and manage complex ER/LR operations across assigned regions or countries. This role is responsible for ensuring compliant, timely, and effective handling of employee relations matters, labor relations activities, investigations, and policy interpretation. The position serves as a trusted advisor to leadership, drives sensitive case resolution, and supports collective bargaining, regulatory responses, and large-scale workforce events.
Key Responsibilities- Manage assigned operational ER/LR activities to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs), service level agreements (SLAs), and operational targets
- Ensure timely and compliant handling of grievances, disciplinary actions, and policy interpretation requests
- Provide expert advice and counsel to ER/LR Specialists, HR Business Partners, and business leaders
- Investigate and prepare responses to EEOC and equivalent government agency charges across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada
- Support collective bargaining agreement negotiations and ongoing contract administration
- Serve as ER/LR Country Leader (e.g., Canada, Puerto Rico) or business segment leader as assigned
- Act as a Common Ground facilitator
- Lead direct interventions with managers and employees on highly sensitive or escalated cases
- Stay current on country-specific employment and labor laws; ensure policies remain compliant and notify leadership of regulatory changes
- Develop and maintain ER/LR policies at regional or country levels
- Attend unemployment hearings and represent the organization before government agencies as required
- Deliver ER/LR training to ER professionals, HR partners, and People Leaders
- Lead ER/LR projects and drive change management and communications initiatives
- Develop team capability through functional training, knowledge sharing, and operational learning activities
- Conduct environmental scans and participate in major workforce events such as RIFs, mergers, and acquisitions
- Monitor and interpret ER/LR KPIs and operational metrics to ensure service excellence and customer satisfaction
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across ER/LR processes, policies, SOPs, and work instructions
- Prepare written reports, communications, and documentation supporting ER/LR activities
- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive HR experience with a strong concentration in Employee Relations and Labor Relations
- Demonstrated experience investigating employee misconduct and performance issues and advising management
- Strong leadership capability with a global mindset and appreciation for regional labor differences
- Proven success establishing, managing, and empowering global virtual teams
- Ability to build a culture focused on speed, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Strong relationship management, coaching, and collaboration skills across leadership levels
- Experience shaping ER/LR solutions that drive business outcomes
- Strong partnership skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience with HR Service Center technologies, including ticketing, knowledge management, and document systems
- Experience developing and reporting HR analytics to drive performance and data-based decisions
- Strong understanding of HR Operations and HRIS systems (ERP, HRIS, applicant tracking systems)
- High results orientation with ability to motivate teams to high performance
- Bilingual capability preferred
- Strong time management skills
- Demonstrated expertise in Employee Relations and Labor Relations
- Proven ability to manage complex investigations, allegations, and documentation effectively
